It is the inventor of the x86 series of microprocessors, the processors found in most personal computers. The goal during development of EtherCAT was to apply Ethernet for automation applications requiring short data update times (also called cycle times) with low communication jitter (for precise synchronization purposes) and reduced hardware costs.
